Yardsurfing through Franklin County

Yardsurfing through Franklin County

Ashley and I first met in Chambersburg PA, where we both started (and finished) our office careers after graduating college. We were lucky enough to meet many friendly people there, both in and out of the office, and we’ve tried to stay in touch – to varying degrees of success – over the years since we left. As we headed to the western part of Pennsylvania, we knew we wanted to stop in Chambersburg and the surrounding area to catch…

Unique Visits with Harvest Hosts

Unique Visits with Harvest Hosts

While researching and planning our transition to the RV lifestyle, we stumbled across a variety of camping clubs and travel organizations.  Most of these clubs offer discounts on a specific network of private campgrounds throughout the country, or in campgrounds within a designated region.  Often these clubs have restrictions on the time of year you can use your membership, or limit your length of stay.  While we might end up using one of these memberships in the future, we currently…

Codorus State Park

Codorus State Park

Located outside of Hanover PA, Codorus State Park is a haven for boaters, anglers, and hopeful eagle-spotters alike. The park surrounds and includes Lake Marburg, which features a marina with various boat rentals, as well as docking slips. The lake is man-made, and you can read about the history of Codorus and Lake Marburg here if you’re interested. The park is also known for being the location of the popular Hanover bald eagle nest, which can be viewed on various digital…

It’s Official – We’re on the Road

It’s Official – We’re on the Road

As I write this, we’re parked by a small pond on a chilly, overcast afternoon at the Adams County Winery.  By the time this post hits the blog, we’ll already have moved on to a new location.  As of May 8th, we’re officially “on the road” – no longer preparing and testing the RV at my parents’ house, visiting with my family in my childhood home of Cross Roads PA.  Since embarking on this journey, we’ve stopped at one state…

Customizing Our RV

Customizing Our RV

Making a living area feel like home is important for most people, and just because our current living area happens to be a tiny metal and fiberglass box on wheels doesn’t make that sentiment any less true for us.  Although buying a new RV did save us the time and effort of upgrading and remodeling an older rig, we have made some modifications and customizations over the past few weeks.  This post won’t have much content in the way of…

Indian Rock Campground

Indian Rock Campground

For our first official outing to a private campground, we chose a site within easy driving distance from our current location.  Indian Rock Campground is nestled between West York and Leaders Heights, conveniently located near Lake Redman, the Codorus Creek, and the York County Heritage Rail Trail.  After de-winterizing our water lines and sanitizing our fresh water tank, we fired up Cecil the RV and embarked on a short 15-mile drive along winding country roads on a sunny Wednesday afternoon….

First Steps and Local Sights

First Steps and Local Sights

As the last of the snow melted and the weather started to gradually warm again over the past couple of weeks, we finished clearing the final few things out of our apartment.  Before leaving Newark, we needed to pick up a couple of accessories the dealer ordered for us when we bought the RV.  (Which, incidentally, Ashley has decided to name “Cecil” – but I am open to other ideas.  Feel free to chime in with your thoughts in the…

The Search for the RV, Part Three

The Search for the RV, Part Three

Remember all that unseasonably warm weather we mentioned for our first two RV shows?  Well – not to jump too far ahead in the story, but – we bought an RV and this is what it looked like just a couple of days ago. Now back to the search.  This post isn’t chronological; not that it really matters to the story, but I thought I’d mention it anyway. We attended the York RV show with my (Nathan’s) parents because they…

The Search for the RV, Part Two

The Search for the RV, Part Two

The Harrisburg RV and Camping Show was the weekend after the Timonium show, so we decided to attend that as well.  Turns out the dealers offer “special” show pricing on new RVs, so we modified our mindset to potentially purchase a new RV for the right price.  This is, of course, mostly just another sales tactic and I’m sure you can haggle over the price of an RV any time of the year, but it is definitely convenient seeing the…

The Search for the RV, Part One

The Search for the RV, Part One

Quick Note – I changed our content management software after posting the first blog entry, which means any comments on the initial post have been lost.  Sorry about that, commenters, but switching to a new platform now was better than waiting another month or two.  I’m learning as I go! Turns out shopping for an RV is less about buying an RV, and more about finding interesting beers in the towns you’re visiting.  More on that a little later. Our…
